Boaters’ Training Center
is added to the show

For those who love to work on their own boats, an exciting new learning feature is
being added to this year’s Progressive Cleveland Boat Show, January 12-15.
Called the Ohio Marine Training Center presented by Blaster Products, this special new
feature area is designed to be the epicenter for learning about a variety of tasks that many boat-
owners can enjoy doing, and the most effective way to get them done. The Training Center is a
partnership between the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association and the Great Lakes Community
Action Partnership (GLCAP). The latter is a major provider of technical education and training
resources in Ohio.
There will be a wide-range of subjects discussed daily, ranging from easy ways to repair
gelcoat scratches to changing engine oils, plugs, props, gaskets and much more. The exhibit will
include the display of engines and other related equipment, as well as recommended tools and
supplies for all do-it-yourself skippers.
In addition to daily seminars, the Training Center will also contain information about career
opportunities in the Ohio marine industry. “Boating in our state continues to grow,” explains
Gary Tennefoss, chairman of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association. “So, the need for trained
personnel in sales and service at our dealerships and marinas is steadily growing and offers
good-paying career opportunities.”
Accordingly, included in the Training Center will be an “Careers Information Wall” depicting
both training opportunities and typical career paths. And, there will also be a “Jobs
Board” with current postings to view.
According to Tennefoss: “Today the

for more than 19,000 jobs in
700-plus marine businesses,”
he notes, “and that spells
opportunity.”
