Cuyahoga River gets initial share

of smolts in April

he wide, pristine waters of Lake Erie
and its winding Northeast Ohio rivers
Tand streams have become legendary
fishing destinations for steelhead trout. This
month the world class fishery will expand in
a way few environmentalists — or anglers —
ever thought would come to pass.
The Ohio Division of Wildlife, which has
nurtured the wild trout at its Castalia State Fish
Hatchery near Sandusky since the hatchery
came on line in 1979, has decided to release
some of its 450,000 premier cold water trout
this spring in the Cuyahoga River. (Visit an Ohio
